Get the most out of your oils, safely. #1 tip to remember: Less is always more when your pregnant. 1st Trimester + Essential Oils We do not recommend regular or daily use during the first trimester because your body is changing so much at this time. It could be best to avoid essential oils during the first trimester unless absolutely necessary. However, if nausea is something you are struggling with, we recommend adding a drop of spearmint or peppermint oil to a tissue or a personal inhaler and carrying it with you. 2nd & 3rd Trimester + Essential Oils: There are a few main ways to use essential oils: diffusing, topical application, inhalation will all effect you differently. Use trial and error to get the best results. Ways to Use Your Essential Oils: There are several different ways to use essential oils, lets take a minute to learn about the differences so you can make an educated decision as to which is best for you.
Oils to Avoid While Pregnant: Some oils can impact your growing baby because they can have the potential to cross the placental barrier. These are the oils to avoid while pregnant: *Star Anise *Sweet Fennel *Blue Cypress *Sage Dalmation Safe Oils: There are many essential oils that are safe to use during pregnancy, but how do you know which ones? Plant Therapy line is fantastic because they have clearly labeled bottles that make it much easier to determine if you should use them at this time. In general, many of the Kid Safe oils are a safe bet with the exception of Blue Cypress and Clary Sage. Some top examples of Essential Oils to use for specific pregnancy related ailments include:
Labor + Essential Oils: Labor can be a long, intensive time. Essential oils can play a part in keeping you calm while you work hard to bring the baby into this world. When using essential oils during labor, personal inhalers are best. If the scent is overwhelming it can be easily caped and removed. Ways to use Essential Oils during labor:
Diffusing Around Babys and Children Under 2: Only use when needed When diffusing around babies only run the diffuser 30 minutes at a time or when the baby is in a separate room. Only use kid safe oils. We love Plant Therapy for this reason! All of their oils are CLEARLY marked kid safe so there is no guessing or researching at 2am. If applying topically, use correct dilution for your baby. Remember, the baby can also reap the benefits of essentials oils that you are wearing. We suggest adding a drop of lavender or chamomile to a pair of diffuser earrings to calm the baby. Breast Feeding and Essential Oils It's just like everything else you use or eat while nursing: it can transfer to your milk supply. You can safely use essential oils while nursing: only use as needed, only use kid safe oils, keeping your dilution rate low. Never apply essential oils to your breast when nursing. We never want the babies to ingest essential oils. If you're little one has health issues or is premature please seek an aromatherapist. annually around the world? That's over 70 for every person on the planet! Less than 10% of them are recyclable due to the majority of cups being lined with plastic in order to hold liquid! That means over 90% are going into landfills or being incinerated, both of which have negative impacts for our environment. Feel like you've been bamboozled? Join us as we make a pledge to carry around our reusable cups. Most of us have a few laying around in our kitchen anyway. Did you know that all local coffee shops are more than willing to fill your reusable cup when you place your order. A few perks even come with it! Some coffee shops offer a discount when you bring your own mug and your coffee will most-likely stay hot for a longer period of time than it would in a paper cup. _______________ When we began our journey at Washington Green Spa we first offered Boxed Water to every client after their session. While we had believed this was better than bottled water, we found it was actually not recyclable due to the lining of the boxes to hold liquid. We then switched to our eco-friendly to-go cups and offered water or hot tea. While the cups we offer are biodegradable & compostable, we are still looking for ways to lessen our carbon foot print even more. We have phased out all to-go cups as of January 2020. We still feel that hydration is extremely important and want to make sure you get what you need. We invite you to bring your own re-usable cup for us to fill for you or have a seat in our waiting area and enjoy a cup of tea or water before from our glass cups you leave. Cheers to reusable cups! |
