Boost Your Health With Gratitude

While it may seem obvious that gratitude is a positive emotion, psychologists are now learning that it can make you happier and change your attitude about life. Studies show that when you stop and count your blessings, you can feel the shift from feeling bad to good. There are also health benefits as well.  Practicing gratitude regularly can create a more positive outlook, improved mood, reduced stress and increased fulfillment.  Here are some ideas for cultivating an attitude of gratitude in your life. 

1. Keep a gratitude journal. Write down 3-5 things you are thankful for every night before bed, or weekly. If we constantly focus on what we do not have, how do we expect to be happy? But if we choose to see the blessings around us big or small, a beautiful sunny day, a good cup of coffee, the smell of rain-we begin to focus on the good things in life. 
   
2. Post positive reinforcements such as quotes, notes, or cards from friends and family. Or pictures of an amazing day you had- anything to remind you of all the good things in your life. 
   
3. Blessings Practice. Every night, each family member can take a turn and name three things you are each grateful for. This will be much more beneficial than voicing complaints about the day.
